Many of us are obsessed with buying expensive products just to keep ourselves beautiful and healthy at the same time. But what we lack to realize is that most of what we need to reach our “beauty goals” is just right under our noses. Better yet, these ingredients are just right inside the comforts of our own homes. We just fail to appreciate how they can work as good (or even better) that commercially bought items.
One of these underrated beauty ingredient is widely used and known for its baking and cooking properties. But if we get to tackle how this item was brought about and made, then we can have a clearer understanding as to why it is a good natural alternative for our beauty products. This ingredient is none other than Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3) or more popularly known as baking soda.
What is Baking Soda and Why Use it for Your Body?
Baking soda is actually a crystal material that is as fine as powder. Due to its consistency, it is a very effectively mild abrasive, it can be used for bodily use. So flexible it can be used from literally your head up to your toes. It can be both alkaline and acidic in nature depending on how you use it.
To top it off, baking soda is basically all natural in form and is environmentally friendly making it safe for use. But juts make sure not to overdo using this item. Hair Care Helper
1.) Scalp clarifying shampoo
Using this particular type of mixture can cleanse you scalp by removing excess dirt, dead skin and other product build-ups. Using this will make your hair shiny, healthy and with clean hair strands.
All you need to do is to mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with a dollop of your usual shampoo and massage it into your hair. Let it rest for two minutes before rinsing it off. Afterwards, shampoo normally. Limit this treatment at least once a month so as not to throw off the pH level of your hair which can lead to dryness and breakage.
2.) Dry shampoo
This type of shampoo can prevent your hair from being too oily and giving it an added “lift”. You can simply apply it as is or mix it with a few drops of your favorite essential oils (like lavender or rose) for a pleasant scent.
B.) “Swimmer’s Hair” cure
If you have blond hair then you probably suffer from dullness, discoloration and even a green tinge on your hair every time you swim. All you need to do is to mix baking soda with water and apply it on the green areas and leave it there for 10 minutes. After which, shampoo it out well and use conditioner. Depending on the severity of the green tinge is your basis of repeating the process.
1.) Facial Exfoliant
Using baking soda as an exfoliator can remove dead skin, excess oils and give you a brighter and younger-looking skin. But you have to do it gently so as not to make you face reddish and irritated.
Simply combine 1 tablespoon of organic honey and 1 teaspoon baking soda on your palm and rub together. Once fully incorporated, gently massage it all over your face in circular motion and let it rest for one minute before removing it using warm water.
2.) Acne mask
Baking soda can hasten the drying out of acne and pimples while removing excess oil all at the same time. Just make a paste using baking soda and water and apply it on the affected areas. Let it stay there for 15 minutes before washing it off. This can also be used in removing unwanted acne and pimple scars.

If you overdid you self-tanning session and want to minimize the excess discoloration of your skin, you can do so by simply applying a mixture of one part water and three parts baking soda and gently scrub those excess tans away.
Itch caused by various factors such as insect bites, weather, razor burns, dryness and the likes can be relieved by simply applying a paste made of baking soda and water on your itchy areas. You can also use it along with a warm bath buy just adding half a cup of baking soda on your bath water for an overall soothing experience. Don’t forget to apply lotion afterwards.

Baking soda is a natural and safer way to go if you want to remove those pesky blackheads. Before you apply your mixture (1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon baking soda and 2 tablespoon water), wash your face and cleanse it. Next is to steam your face by placing it on top of a basin of hot water. Finally, apply your mixture by gently massaging it on the affected area. Rinse it off using cold water. Repeat this regime only once a week until you a blackheads free.
Hands and Feet Treatment
1.) Mani-Pedi Prelude
Making your cuticles and hand (or feet) skin soft and ready for your mani-pedi session can be done with the help of baking soda. Just dip a nail brush in not a paste made from three parts baking soda and one part water. Apply it on your nails, hands and feet using a circular motion. Rinse it of using warm water.
2.) Callus softener
Complete your foot and hand spa by also using the same mani-pedi baking soda recipe. Using the above mentioned mixture, make a foot or hand bath and let your feet and hands soak in the basin filled with water and your mixture for 10 minutes. Afterwards, apply your desired lotion on your hands, arms, feet and legs. Finally, wrap a warm towel around them for 5-10 minutes.
Other Helpful Uses
A.) Natural deodorant
Most people are afraid of using deodorants due to their underarms being too sensitive to chemicals. You can use this baking soda recipe and just simply apply is as it is or combine baking soda with 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oils to give it a fresh scent.
B.) Mouth care
1.) Teeth whitener
Use baking soda directly by applying it on your toothbrush. Afterwards rinse it off using warm water and proceed with your regular toothbrush routine.
Continue your mouth care by making your own organic version of mouthwash. All you need to do is to mix 1 teaspoon baking soda in ¼ glass of water and swish it around your mouth.
